{"id":80771,"date":"2025-02-27T00:05:24","date_gmt":"2025-02-27T05:05:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=80771"},"modified":"2025-02-27T00:05:24","modified_gmt":"2025-02-27T05:05:24","slug":"1145858_nissan-ev-nacs-port-next-gen-leaf-ariya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=80771","title":{"rendered":"Upcoming Nissan EV getting NACS port: Will it be next-gen Leaf?"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li><strong>NACS will debut in Nissan-branded pure EV in 2025, be available in 2026<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Unclear whether that\u2019s refreshed Ariya, or next-generation Leaf<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Nissan won\u2019t immediately renew home charging around NACS<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Nissan was the first Japanese automaker to confirm a switch to the Tesla-based North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector for future U.S.-market EVs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It announced back in July 2023 that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1140243_nissan-will-adopt-tesla-nacs-charging-for-ariya-future-evs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nissan EVs with a NACS port<\/a> would begin arriving in 2025, and in a recent check-in with Green Car Reports, Nissan confirmed that it remains on-track for that target\u2014with a few intriguing details.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Nissan is now offering a <strong>NACS adapter for the Ariya<\/strong>, which has a CCS charge port, so that it can take advantage of the Tesla Supercharger network and other additional NACS connectors. That\u2019s ahead of a message that Nissan is now adding a little more detail to: It confirmed Wednesday its plan to &#8220;introduce&#8221; a Nissan-branded pure <strong>EV with a native NACS port<\/strong> later this calendar year, with on-sale availability assured for calendar-year 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That potentially pegs a refreshed Ariya as the first U.S. Nissan with a NACS port, but Nissan wouldn&#8217;t confirm that&#8217;s the case. Further, its hint of &#8220;introduce&#8221; opens the door to a different model potentially leading the transition, at least from a show stand. That essentially <strong>doubles the charge connectors<\/strong> available to a Nissan customer, Jammeh recently noted to Green Car Reports.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of what happens with a range of factors such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1145700_trump-dot-freezes-ev-charger-funding-demands-new-state-plans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">federal charging buildout<\/a>, Nissan is expecting \u201csteady growth\u201d in U.S. charging infrastructure over the next few years, according to Jammeh. \u201cIndustry-wide, we still see the customer want, and the necessity, behind more charging infrastructure,\u201d he underscored.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Home charging remains a big part of it, too, and Jammeh emphasized that part of it won\u2019t be changing immediately\u2014and it doesn\u2019t need to, with adapters playing their part.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper\" readability=\"7\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100951481_m\" title=\"Nissan Ariya at Tesla Supercharger station\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"Nissan Ariya at Tesla Supercharger station\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"576\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/nissan-ariya-at-tesla-supercharger-station_100951481_l.webp\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/nissan-ariya-at-tesla-supercharger-station_100951481_h.webp\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/nissan-ariya-at-tesla-supercharger-station_100951481_l.webp\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/nissan-ariya-at-tesla-supercharger-station_100951481_l.webp\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/nissan-ariya-at-tesla-supercharger-station_100951481_m.webp\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/nissan-ariya-at-tesla-supercharger-station_100951481_s.webp\" class=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Nissan Ariya at Tesla Supercharger station<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe beautiful part is that, between J1772, CCS1, and NACS, they\u2019re compatible,\u201d said Jammeh, referring to what&#8217;s assured by the developing J3400 standard around the NACS connector. \u201cSo in terms of a customer, do they actually need to change their home infrastructure? No, they can utilize the same equipment they have.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for that adapter, it\u2019s available now, and it can be <strong>purchased for $235<\/strong> through Nissan dealers or directly from Nissan.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nissan strongly advises against using a third-party adapter\u2014or for that matter, even the Tesla Magic Dock, and cautions that it\u2019s prohibited under Nissan\u2019s own terms and may also violate Tesla\u2019s terms of use for the Supercharger Network. In Nissan\u2019s design specifically, a plastic tab that fits within the adapter helps it fit securely.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The adapter fully supports the Ariya\u2019s peak charge rate of 130 kw, which allows it to charge from 10-80% in as little as 35 minutes, according to Nissan.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper\" readability=\"7\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100864693_m\" title=\"2023 Nissan Ariya at EVgo charging station\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"2023 Nissan Ariya at EVgo charging station\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"576\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2023-nissan-ariya-at-evgo-charging-station_100864693_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/2023-nissan-ariya-at-evgo-charging-station_100864693_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2023-nissan-ariya-at-evgo-charging-station_100864693_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2023-nissan-ariya-at-evgo-charging-station_100864693_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/2023-nissan-ariya-at-evgo-charging-station_100864693_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/2023-nissan-ariya-at-evgo-charging-station_100864693_s.jpg\" class=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2023 Nissan Ariya at EVgo charging station<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Jammeh said that looking ahead, Nissan \u201cwill support any change that needs to be done on the vehicle design or equipment side to make sure customers are best-equipped.\u201d But the engineer couldn\u2019t yet say whether or not that means better support in its electric vehicle products for bidirectional charging\u2014just that it hopes to adopt those technologies in the future.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Future charging technology announcements, Jammeh hinted, might also correspond with Nissan\u2019s plans to offer an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1135680_will-solid-state-batteries-be-the-key-to-make-electric-suvs-and-pickups-viable\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">all-solid-state battery<\/a> in at least one global vehicle by 2028.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nissan, on a global basis, has emphasized the importance of bidirectional charging tech, including vehicle-to-home (V2H) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technologies, and it once said those capabilities were built into the Ariya. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1144763_2026-nissan-rogue-plug-in-hybrid-will-borrow-mitsubishi-tech\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2026 Nissan Rogue plug-in hybrid<\/a> has also been confirmed, and seeing that its Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV cousin uses CHAdeMO, it will be interesting to see whether it arrives with that, CCS, or NACS. Nissan also has several <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1145575_nissan-crossover-ev-canceled-for-us-other-evs-delayed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mississippi-made EVs<\/a> in the works, but those have now been pushed out to 2028 and will surely offer NACS.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, with such variance in upcoming EVs, adapters, and different charge ports, it\u2019s going to be much more of a challenge for automakers to communicate what to plug into\u2014both within apps and in-person.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NACS will debut in
