{"id":80883,"date":"2025-03-04T00:03:56","date_gmt":"2025-03-04T05:03:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=80883"},"modified":"2025-03-04T00:03:56","modified_gmt":"2025-03-04T05:03:56","slug":"1145890_hyundai-kia-solid-state-batteries-before-2030-not-likely","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=80883","title":{"rendered":"Solid-state batteries aren&#8217;t likely for Hyundai or Kia before 2030"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hyundai and Kia likely won&#8217;t have solid-state batteries ready for electric vehicles before the end of the decade, an executive said in an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autonews.com\/hyundai\/kia\/an-hyundai-kia-ev-solid-state-battery-0227\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Automotive News<\/a> published Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t think we can commercialize these batteries before 2030,&#8221; Spencer Cho, head of global product planning for Kia, said Feb. 24 at the automaker&#8217;s EV Day presentation in Tarragona, Spain.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The three brands under the Hyundai Motor Group umbrella, including Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis, are pooling efforts to develop <strong>solid-state batteries in-house<\/strong>, Cho said. But among automakers themselves working on the tech, the major <strong>Japanese automakers appear more confident<\/strong> in it than Hyundai Motor Group.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">Nissan has pushed along with its own internal solid-state battery program and is hoping that they&#8217;ll help revolutionize and simplify the EV\u2014with smaller battery packs and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1141310_nissan-hopes-its-solid-state-ev-batteries-won-t-need-cooling-at-all\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">less or no cooling needs<\/a>. Honda, too, has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1145096_honda-s-ready-to-build-prototype-solid-state-batteries-for-evs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">its own solid-state program<\/a> and sees them arriving before the end of the decade\u2014and as potentially enabling affordable EVs by 2030.
