It doesn\u2019t bode well for the automaker, whose sales had already been falling off a cliff in the important European market.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-405894\"\/><\/p>\n<p>In 2024, Tesla saw a 41% reduction in sales in Germany compared to 2023 despite EV sales surging 27% during the year.<\/p>\n<p>This has already raised red flags about Tesla\u2019s future in Germany, but it is nothing compared to Tesla\u2019s performance so far in 2025.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2025\/03\/05\/tesla-tsla-sales-crash-continues-in-europe-with-germany-down-70\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tesla\u2019s sales were down 70% in the first two months of 2025<\/a>, and again, that\u2019s compared to its already poor performance in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\t<span class=\"outbrain-ad-label\">Advertisement &#8211; scroll for more content<\/span><\/p>\n<p>There are many factors at play, including increased EV competition and the Model Y changeover, but in recent months, industry experts have attributed Tesla\u2019s decline in the country to Germans being upset with Tesla CEO Elon Musk\u2019s meddling in local elections and promoting the far-right AfD party.<\/p>\n<p>Musk is currently under probe in Europe for his political meddling, and his reputation has crashed in Germany after a couple of Seig Heil salutes at Trump\u2019s inauguration and several questionable posts promoting fascist and Nazi ideologies, like this one yesterday:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"675\" height=\"525\" src=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/03\/Screenshot-2025-03-13-at-5.19.48\u202fPM.jpg?quality=82&amp;strip=all\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-405896\" srcset=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/03\/Screenshot-2025-03-13-at-5.19.48\u202fPM.jpg 675w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/03\/Screenshot-2025-03-13-at-5.19.48\u202fPM.jpg?resize=150,117 150w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/03\/Screenshot-2025-03-13-at-5.19.48\u202fPM.jpg?resize=300,233 300w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/03\/Screenshot-2025-03-13-at-5.19.48\u202fPM.jpg?resize=350,272 350w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/03\/Screenshot-2025-03-13-at-5.19.48\u202fPM.jpg?resize=140,109 140w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 675px) 100vw, 675px\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>This does not help Tesla\u2019s prospects in Europe, particularly Germany. Only three percent said they would still consider a car from the former electric pioneer. Around 100,000 readers voted\u2014a record turnout. The message is clear: Germans are turning their backs on Tesla.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Those are impressive results, and they explain Tesla\u2019s current sales in Germany.<\/p>\n<p>Some Tesla shareholders hope that the new version of the Model Y will help reverse the trend, but those poll results don\u2019t look good.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Tesla\u2019s Model 3 sales are also crashing in Germany, which suggests that Model Y is not the only problem.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-electrek-s-take\">Electrek\u2019s Take<\/h2>\n<p>Those results are wild.
