{"id":81272,"date":"2025-03-18T06:04:23","date_gmt":"2025-03-18T10:04:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=81272"},"modified":"2025-03-18T06:04:23","modified_gmt":"2025-03-18T10:04:23","slug":"1146017_2028-alpine-a310-spy-shots","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=81272","title":{"rendered":"2028 Alpine A310 spied: French 2+2 sports car to be revived"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Alpine has been spotted with a test mule for a modern A310 sports car<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The modern A310 is expected to arrive around 2028 and will be powered by batteries<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>It will use the Alpine Performance Platform, which debuts in late 2026 in an electric A110 sports car<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Alpine is on a mission to deliver a seven-car lineup by the end of the decade, a lineup that will include a spiritual successor to the A310 sports car from the 1970s, powered by batteries.<\/p>\n<p>Engineers from the <strong>French performance marque<\/strong> were recently spotted with an early test mule for what&#8217;s thought to be the electric A310. A test mule is an early-stage prototype where engineers use a makeshift body, often taken from an existing vehicle, to house the mechanical package of the vehicle being developed.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<p>In the case of the A310, they were using a custom body that will likely have little in common with the final design, apart from perhaps some general proportions. <strong>The butterfly doors<\/strong> of the test mule may also be retained for the final design.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s still a long way to go in development, as the car isn&#8217;t expected to start sales until 2028, at which point Alpine may even have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1140032_alpine-confirms-7-car-lineup-2027-us-launch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">presence in the U.S.<\/a> Alpine has previously said it is <strong>targeting a U.S. launch around 2027<\/strong>, though initially with a pair of SUVs in the same segments as Porsche&#8217;s Macan and Cayenne.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper first_wrapper\" readability=\"7\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100964037_m\" title=\"1971 Alpine A310 police car\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"1971 Alpine A310 police car\" width=\"640\" height=\"404\" class=\"first_image lazy\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"647\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/1971-alpine-a310-police-car_100964037_l.webp\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/1971-alpine-a310-police-car_100964037_h.webp\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/1971-alpine-a310-police-car_100964037_l.webp\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/1971-alpine-a310-police-car_100964037_l.webp\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/1971-alpine-a310-police-car_100964037_m.webp\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/1971-alpine-a310-police-car_100964037_s.webp\"\/><\/p>\n<p>1971 Alpine A310 police car<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Like the original A310, the modern car will feature 2+2 seating, helping to differentiate it from a smaller and lighter <strong>electric A110 two-seater sports car<\/strong>, which is set to replace the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1145850_alpine-a110-r-70-a110-gts-revealed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">current gas-powered A110<\/a> either in late 2026 or early 2027. Both models will be based on Alpine&#8217;s own <strong>Alpine Performance Platform (APP)<\/strong>, being developed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1144599_renault-stops-f1-engine-development-focuses-on-alpine-supercar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">by Hypercar Alpine<\/a>, the former skunkworks that worked on Renault Formula 1 power units, currently used by the Alpine F1 team. An earlier plan had the electric A110 being developed jointly with Lotus.<\/p>\n<p>Alpine has said the APP platform will focus on lightweight construction and incorporate advanced torque vectoring systems, made possible by multi-motor powertrains. Though yet to be confirmed, the A310 is expected to use the same <strong>three-motor setup<\/strong> (one at the front and two at the rear) debuting in May in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1145804_2026-alpine-a390-release-date\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A390 compact crossover<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Like the A390, the A310 will likely also have a steering wheel with controls for OV (Overtake) and RCH (Recharge), mimicking some of the controls found on the steering wheel of <strong>Alpine&#8217;s F1 car<\/strong>. OV is likely a power boost function, while RCH could adjust the severity of brake energy recovery.<\/p>\n<p>Alpine\u2019s naming strategy follows a pattern: the &#8220;A&#8221; represents the brand, the first digit indicates the vehicle\u2019s size and positioning, and the last two digits distinguish sporty models from lifestyle models. Sporty models use &#8220;10,&#8221; like the A110 sports car, while lifestyle models use &#8220;90,&#8221; as seen in the recently launched A290 hatch and upcoming A390 crossover.
