While the more attainable, track-only models are sold to privateers, that hasn\u2019t been the case with the hybrid race car. Well, at least not yet, because that could soon change. The head of the firm\u2019s motorsport division says he\u2019s open to the idea of selling the V8 machine to customer teams.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <em>SportsCar365<\/em>, BMW M Motorsport chief Andreas Roos was happy to report that \u201cthere\u2019s interest from customer teams\u201d in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmwblog.com\/2025\/03\/11\/bmw-usa-50th-anniversary-sebring-special-livery-3-0-csl-m-hybrid-v8\/\">M Hybrid V8<\/a>. However, a final decision on whether sales will happen hasn\u2019t been made. It would certainly be far above that of BMW M Motorsport\u2019s other race cars. The current lineup starts with the newly announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmwblog.com\/2025\/04\/29\/2026-bmw-m2-racing-makes-public-debut\/\">M2 Racing<\/a> at \u20ac98,000. Next is the M4 GT4 EVO at \u20ac219,000, and then the M4 GT3 EVO, which starts at \u20ac578,000.<\/p>\n<p>While the M2 and M4 are related to their road-going counterparts, the M Hybrid V8 doesn\u2019t have a street-legal equivalent. Homologation rules don\u2019t require a production version, so that isn\u2019t likely to change. BMW says the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmwblog.com\/2025\/05\/02\/bmw-m5-touring-price-singapore\/\">new M5<\/a> does inherit some hybrid tech from the flagship race car, but the twin-turbo V8s powering each are different.<\/p>\n<p>Rather than the S68 found in various production models, the M Hybrid V8 uses the P66\/3. It\u2019s a race-bred engine with roots in DTM. The original P66\/1 was a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter V8 used in the M3 E92 during the 2012 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season.
