Great news, but charging hasn\u2019t up \u2013\u00a0but a new plan from Chicago Department of Transportation aims to build up enough infrastructure for the city to keep up.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-414304\"\/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2025\/01\/06\/cox-automotive-1-in-4-vehicles-sold-in-2025-will-be-electric\/\">In a bid to keep up with the rapid growth of EVs<\/a>, Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT is currently seeking public feedback on a plan called\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicago.gov\/content\/dam\/city\/depts\/cdot\/supp_info\/EVInfrastructureFramework\/CDOTEVFramework_Draft%20for%20Public%20Comment%20April2025.pdf\">Chicago Moves Electric Framework<\/a>.\u201d The city\u2019s first such plan, it outlines initiatives that include a curbside charging pilot through the city\u2019s utility, <a href=\"https:\/\/innovate.comed.com\/be-pilots\/curbside-charging\/\">ComEd<\/a>, and expanded charging access in key areas throughout the city.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike other such plans, however, the new plan aims to focus on bringing electric vehicle charging to EIEC and low income communities, too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough this framework, we are setting clear goals and identifying solutions that reflect the voices of our residents, communities, and regional partners,\u201d said CDOT Commissioner Tom Carney. \u201cBy prioritizing equity and public input, we\u2019re creating a roadmap for electric transportation that serves every neighborhood and helps drive down emissions across Chicago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t<span class=\"outbrain-ad-label\">Advertisement &#8211; scroll for more content<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Neighborhoods on the south and west sides of Chicago experience a disproportionate amount of air pollution and diesel emissions, largely due to vehicle emissions according to CDOT.
