Mitsubishi confirmed plans to launch a new EV in North America that will be based on the next-gen Nissan LEAF. Here\u2019s what we know so far.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-414812\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-mitsubishi-will-use-the-nissan-leaf-for-its-new-ev\">Mitsubishi will use the Nissan LEAF for its new EV<\/h2>\n<p>Earlier this year, Mitsubishi told US dealers (via <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autonews.com\/mitsubishi\/an-nada-mitsubishi-plans-ev-for-2026\/\">Automotive News<\/a><\/em>) that a new EV would arrive in 2026. Sources said the new electric car will closely resemble Nissan\u2019s updated LEAF.<\/p>\n<p>The company officially announced its upcoming EV on Tuesday, giving us a better idea of what to expect. Mitsubishi confirmed its upcoming EV will, in fact, be based on the new <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/guides\/nissan-leaf\/\">Nissan LEAF<\/a>. The Japanese automakers will work together to launch it across the US and Canada as part of Mitsubishi\u2019s long-term growth plan.<\/p>\n<p>Nissan revealed the <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2025\/03\/26\/nissan-leaf-all-grown-up-first-look-new-ev\/\">third-gen LEAF<\/a> in March, upgrading it in nearly every way.
