He generally believes whatever Elon Musk claims and adds a slight delay to the CEO\u2019s timeline.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, Jonas met with Tesla with some clients and released a new note that he hinted to be based on what he learned from Tesla during the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>\t<span class=\"outbrain-ad-label\">Advertisement &#8211; scroll for more content<\/span><\/p>\n<p>He claims that the planned \u201crobotaxi\u201d rollout in Austin next month is going to use \u201cplenty of tele ops to ensure safety levels\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\" readability=\"6\">\n<p>Austin\u2019s a \u2018go\u2019 but fleet size will be low. Think 10 to 20 cars. Public roads. Invite only. Plenty of tele ops to ensure safety levels (\u201cwe can\u2019t screw up\u201d). Still waiting for a date.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u2018Tele ops\u2019 stands for teleoperations, meaning that Tesla employees will be able to remotely access Tesla\u2019s vehicles and operate them in some capacity.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, <em>Electrek<\/em> reported that <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2024\/11\/25\/tesla-remote-control-team-robotaxis-waymo\/\">Tesla started hiring for this teleoperation team before the Robotaxi launch in Austin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We have been extensively reporting on how much Tesla\u2019s planned robotaxi fleet in Austin diverges from its previously disclosed plans of deploying \u201cunsupervised Full Self-Driving\u201d in its consumer vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla plans to deploy \u201c10-20\u201d Model Y vehicles to offer ride-hailling services in a geo-fenced area of Austin, Texas using a version of its \u2018Supervised Full Self-Driving\u2019 (FSD), but instead of being supervised by a driver inside the vehicle, like the current product in consumer vehicles, Tesla is going to used employees to remotely supervise the vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>The service is supposed to launch in June.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-electrek-s-take\">Electrek\u2019s Take<\/h2>\n<p>I seriously don\u2019t get why anyone could get excited about this. It is going to be a bit better than the current FSD, which has stalled for months as Tesla focuses on optimizing the system for Austin, but it will still basically be supervised \u2013\u00a0just remotely.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a chance that it won\u2019t even be remote as some believe Tesla will even fumble that timeline and use safety drivers, but I don\u2019t know. I\u2019m about 50\/50 on that prediction right now.<\/p>\n<p>Remote supervisors make more sense as Tesla can claim a little victory even though it would be less impressive than what Waymo has been doing for years.<\/p>\n<p>The real goal that Tesla sold to consumers is that their privately owned vehicles would become self-driving without supervision and we are still so far from that.
