The <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/guides\/ford-f-150-lightning\/\">F-150 Lightning<\/a> is once again the best-selling electric pickup in the US after overtaking the Tesla Cybertruck in the first quarter.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-416388\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ford-s-f-150-lightning-is-the-best-selling-electric-pickup\">Ford\u2019s F-150 Lightning is the best-selling electric pickup<\/h2>\n<p>After launching in 2023, Tesla\u2019s Cybertruck quickly outpaced the Lightning to become America\u2019s top-selling EV pickup last year.<\/p>\n<p>Since Tesla doesn\u2019t break down regional sales, registration data gives us our best estimate. The latest registration data from S&amp;P Global Mobility (via <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autonews.com\/tesla\/an-tesla-cybertruck-falls-to-ford-lightning-for-ev-crown-0515\/\">Automotive News<\/a><\/em>) shows that the F-150 Lightning retook the title in March and the first quarter of 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Ford\u2019s electric pickup notched 2,598 registrations in March, topping the <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/guides\/tesla-cybertruck\/\">Tesla Cybertruck<\/a> with 2,170. In the first quarter, the F-150 Lightning remained ahead with 7,913 registrations, compared to the Cybertruck\u2019s 7,126.<\/p>\n<p>\t<span class=\"outbrain-ad-label\">Advertisement &#8211; scroll for more content<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Although the Cybertruck was the fifth top-selling EV in the US last year, it didn\u2019t even crack the top ten in March. According to the most recent numbers from <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.coxautoinc.com\/market-insights\/q1-2025-ev-sales\/\">Cox Automotive<\/a><\/em>, GM sold 2,383 Chevy Silverado EVs and 1,249 GMC Sierra EV models in Q1. Ford reported Lightning sales fell 16% to just 1,740 units in April. Through April 2025, Ford has sold 8,927 electric trucks, down 9%  from the 9,833 it handed over last year.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-electrek-s-take\">Electrek\u2019s Take<\/h2>\n<p>To be fair, Tesla is still ahead by a wide margin in the US. The <em>S&amp;P<\/em> numbers show Tesla had over 51,000 registrations in March, up 1% after two months of lower YOY growth.<\/p>\n<p>GM\u2019s Chevy surpassed Ford to become the second-best-selling EV brand with nearly 8,500 registrations, an increase of 274%  from last year. Ford dropped to third with 7,361 registrations.<\/p>\n<p>Although it\u2019s just one quarter, it\u2019s starting to show how Tesla CEO Elon Musk\u2019s political antics are likely impacting sales. After the Cybertruck\u2019s initial hype, it appears many buyers are opting for traditional pickups, like the F-150 Lighting.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Ram is <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2025\/05\/15\/ram-delaying-first-electric-truck-again-heres-when-it-will-arrive\/\">delaying its first electric pickup<\/a>, the 1500 REV, again.
