Now, they\u2019ve turned their attention to heavy trucks \u2013\u00a0and their proposed universal battery swap solution for HDEVs could be just the thing to clean up that \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2025\/05\/01\/act-expo-2025-one-step-forward-two-steps-back-for-clean-trucking-part-1\/\">messy middle<\/a>.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-416584\"\/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.catl.com\/en\/news\/6041.html\">The culmination of the QIJI Energy project launched\u00a0in June 2023<\/a>, the goal was to advance the adoption of battery swap technology in the heavy truck segment. And, because these CATL 73#-equipped HDEVs can still just \u201cplug in\u201d when a swap site is unavailable or time is less of a factor, those impressive numbers are providing options that are <em>in addition to<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2025\/04\/17\/terawatt-first-electric-charging-truck-stop-california\/\">the growing international network of DC fast charging stations being deployed for heavy duty trucks and equipment assets<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\t<span class=\"outbrain-ad-label\">Advertisement &#8211; scroll for more content<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2025\/05\/18\/linfox-adds-30-fully-electric-semi-trucks-to-australian-logistics-fleet\/\">CATL believes that the electric semi truck industry will experience explosive growth in the next three years<\/a>. Despite the evidence of their own senses, however, there\u2019s still a big contingent in the EV community that think they wants to \u201cown\u201d their batteries. But commercial fleet buyers are a different breed. In their world, <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2025\/05\/03\/e-quipment-highlight-kenworth-t880e-vocational-electric-semi-truck\/\">if something makes cents it makes sense<\/a>, and the uptime, efficiency, and peace of mind electric truckers could realize with a battery swap solution could make a whole lot of cents.<\/p>\n<p>Ownership, in other words, might be an outdated concept.
