But the Powerwall isn\u2019t the only top-shelf home battery on the market, but long wait times, Elon\u2019s antics, and the proliferation of really good integrated alternatives from legacy EV brands might have you shopping for Tesla alternatives already. If that\u2019s you, the next logical step is to re-think the brand\u2019s solar battery offerings as well \u2013\u00a0here are some of the best options out there.<\/p>\n<p>As I was putting this list together, I realized there were plenty of ways for me to present this information. \u201cBest batteries ..?\u201d Too opinion-based. \u201cCheapest batteries ..?\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2025\/05\/23\/tesla-ranks-under-unitedhealth-temu-bp-in-brand-reputation-poll-due-to-musk\/\">Too much research and a quick descent into Temu-grade nonsense<\/a>. In the end, <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2025\/05\/21\/all-the-evs-you-can-buy-with-0-interest-financing-in-may-2025\/\">I went with the same solution I\u2019ve been using on my 0% EV financing lists<\/a>: alphabetical order, by brand. That\u2019s partly driven by the fact that I\u2019m neither an electrician, a chemical engineer, or someone who\u2019s researched thousands of end-user experience surveys to come up with whatever metrics I\u2019d need to confidently and correctly call one battery \u201cthe best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Our friends and solar industry experts at EnergySage, though? They\u2019ve got all three of those things on staff, and they really, really like the Villara VillaGrid+.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe\u00a0Villara VillaGrid+\u00a0stands out as the best battery on the market, scoring highest in EnergySage\u2019s rigorous Equipment Rating System, <a href=\"https:\/\/redirect.viglink.com\/?format=go&amp;jsonp=vglnk_174860323311714&amp;key=1a191e4b4fb604347e07a98f5714a295&amp;libId=mbao5a7t01002cim000UL11epgkbb5j4dl&amp;loc=https%3A%2F%2Felectrek.co%2F2025%2F05%2F25%2Fopinion-its-time-to-start-recommending-some-tesla-alternatives%2F&amp;ccpaConsent=1---&amp;v=1&amp;out=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dpbolvw.net%2Fclick-101288862-16942853&amp;title=Opinion%3A%20it%27s%20time%20to%20start%20recommending%20some%20Tesla%20alternatives&amp;txt=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">explains EnergySage\u2019s Kristina Zagame<\/a>. \u201cThat said, (the Villara VillaGrid+) is not necessarily the best Tesla Powerwall alternative. It\u2019s a very different (and much pricier) battery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What puts the VillaGrid+ on top? According to Zagame, it all comes down to the battery\u2019s lithium-titanium-oxide, or LTO chemistry. \u201cUnlike more traditional\u00a0lithium-ion batteries, LTO has better recharge capabilities for longer life cycles, and doesn\u2019t contain any carbon, which makes it extra safe. The only downside is you\u2019ll definitely shell out more money upfront for the VillaGrid+.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That extra money will also buy some additional peace of mind, as Villara backs its LTO batteries with a 20-year warranty compared to Tesla Powerwall and its (and just about everyone else\u2019s) 10-year deal. I couldn\u2019t find a price, but Villara\u2019s other products, like VillaGrid 5.75 kWh battery, come in at nearly double Powerwall\u2019s per kWh cost.
