The upcoming EV version will replace it in Germany alongside a new electric SUV.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-418989\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-volkswagen-golf-demand-sinks-ahead-of-ev-version\">Volkswagen Golf demand sinks ahead of EV version<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cThe Golf must go to Mexico!\u201d Volkswagen\u2019s works council chairman, Daniela Cavallo, warned this week. According to a statement posted on VW\u2019s intranet, viewed by <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/autos-transportation\/volkswagen-job-cuts-track-20000-agree-early-redundancy-bild-reports-2025-06-03\/\">Reuters<\/a><\/em>, Cavalla said, \u201cThe trend is unstoppable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Golf production has drastically fallen off over the past few years. A graph from the works council showed Volkswagen built just over 300,000 Golf models last year, a significant difference from over a million in 2025. This year, the company plans to build just 250,000 units.<\/p>\n<p>Volkswagen is undergoing a major restructuring at its Wolfsburg plant in Germany, where the majority of Golf production is based. The 800V architecture promises to significantly improve charging times and efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>Volkswagen is expected to launch the EV variant, the \u201cID Golf,\u201d in 2028.
