The new model will be the first of a family of affordable electric vehicles based on the new Ford Universal EV Platform. As <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/guides\/ford\/\">Ford<\/a> shifts to lower-cost EVs, a few popular SUVs you may recognize are getting axed.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-429787\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ford-s-new-30-000-ev-pickup-will-replace-gas-suvs\">Ford\u2019s new $30,000 EV pickup will replace gas SUVs<\/h2>\n<p>At its Louisville, Kentucky, plant on Monday (see <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2025\/08\/12\/fords-universal-ev-platform-event-left-key-unanswered-questions-but-the-optimism-was-palpable\/\">our recap of the event<\/a>), Ford revealed plans to build a new midsize EV pickup, claiming it will have a lower cost of ownership than a Tesla Model Y.<\/p>\n<p>It will also have more interior space, thanks to its new <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2025\/08\/11\/fords-new-universal-ev-platform-is-a-game-changer-for-30k-evs\/\">\u201cFord Universal EV Platform,\u201d<\/a> which was also unveiled during the event.<\/p>\n<p>The platform will underpin a series of new affordable electric cars that Ford promises will compete with the best. Ford is set to begin production of the new midsize EV pickup in 2027 at the Louisville Assembly plant, meaning it will need to clear room.<\/p>\n<p>\t<span class=\"outbrain-ad-label\">Advertisement &#8211; scroll for more content<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Ford currently builds the Escape and Lincoln Corsair at the facility, both of which will be retired. It even outsold the Bronco Sport in the first half of the year (82,589 vs 72,438).<\/p>\n<p>The Corsair is the second-best-selling Lincoln brand model through June, behind the Nautilus, with 13,096 units sold.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/08\/Ford-Universal-EV-platform-2.gif?w=960\" alt=\"Ford-Universal-EV-platform\" class=\"wp-image-429187\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Ford Universal EV Platform (Source: Ford)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Although production is slated to end later this year, Ford confirmed the SUVs will continue to be sold well into 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Ford has invested around $5 billion in its Louisville Assembly Complex, creating nearly 4,000 jobs, as it prepares for its next generation of electric vehicles.
