Hyundai set an all-time August sales record, whereas Kia posted its highest monthly U.S. sales in company history.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/hyundai\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"2\" data-params=\"%7B%22alias%22%3A%22hyundai%22%7D\">Hyundai<\/a> sold 88,523 vehicles in August, the vast majority of them internal combustion engine models. The Elantra, Palisade and Tucson were by far its best-selling vehicles last month. But EVs and hybrids accounted for 32% of the retail sales mix. Through August, Hyundai sold nearly 33,000 units of its electric crossover, which now gets a Tesla-style North American Charging Standard (NACS) right from the factory for seamless Supercharger access.<\/p>\n<p>The model itself is more appealing than ever, with an <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/reviews\/751094\/hyundai-ioniq-5-xrt-first-drive\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22751094%22%2C%22section%22%3A%222%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22hyundai-ioniq-5-xrt-first-drive%22%7D\">off-road XRT trim<\/a> and more features. Sales of the <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/hyundai\/ioniq-6\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22hyundai%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22ioniq-6%22%7D\">Ioniq 6<\/a> grew 30% to 1,047 units, whereas the <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/hyundai\/ioniq-9\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22hyundai%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22ioniq-9%22%7D\">Ioniq 9<\/a> three-row electric SUV found 1,106 buyers last month.<\/p>\n<p>Hybrids have also been a bright spot for Hyundai this year, and August was no exception, with the Elantra and Santa Fe hybrids reaching monthly sales records. The Sportage was by far its best-selling model, followed by the Telluride and the K4\/Forte.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/kia\/ev9\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22kia%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22ev9%22%7D\">EV9<\/a> bounced back after a sales dip in July, posting a 12% increase year-over-year with 2,679 units sold. Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/kia\/ev6\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22kia%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22ev6%22%7D\">EV6<\/a> sales have fallen off a cliff this year, with August marking seven straight months of sales decline since February. Kia sold 1,769 units of the EV6 last month, a nearly 5% year-over-year decline.\u00a0It trails behind its Ioniq 5 mechanical sibling.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s worth noting that Hyundai and Kia have been offering <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/features\/410039\/best-electric-car-deals-this-month\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22410039%22%2C%22section%22%3A%223%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22best-electric-car-deals-this-month%22%7D\">aggressive deals<\/a> on their EVs, enabled by the federal tax credit, which is now expiring on Sept. 30. Buyers can still claim the tax credit and get deliveries after September, as long as they have a contract signed by the end of the month. Industry analysts expect EV sales to slow down towards the end of the year, but Hyundai said it\u2019s still on track for its best sales year ever.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of what happens after the tax credits, more electrified Hyundais and Kias are in the pipeline. The next-generation <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/757134\/hyundai-palisade-hybrid-stay-mode-ev\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22757134%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22hyundai-palisade-hybrid-stay-mode-ev%22%7D\">Palisade<\/a>, which was revealed at the New York Auto Show, goes on sale in the U.S. in the fall and, for the first time, will get a <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/757134\/hyundai-palisade-hybrid-stay-mode-ev\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22757134%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22hyundai-palisade-hybrid-stay-mode-ev%22%7D\">hybrid powertrain<\/a>. The <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/755547\/kia-ev3-affordable-ev-usa\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22755547%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22kia-ev3-affordable-ev-usa%22%7D\">Kia EV3<\/a> is expected to go on sale in the U.S. next year.
