It\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/691153\/tesla-sells-wiferion-wireless-charging-company\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22691153%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22tesla-sells-wiferion-wireless-charging-company%22%7D\">not the first inductive car charger in the world<\/a>, but <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/porsche\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\">Porsche<\/a> claims it\u2019s the first 11-kilowatt pad widely available to the public.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s really cool and convenient, but it will cost you. A representative of the German brand who spoke with Kyle Conner from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Oe--Wi23U6M\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Out of Spec Reviews<\/a> at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich said that <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/771193\/porsche-cayenne-electric-wireless-charging\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22771193%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22porsche-cayenne-electric-wireless-charging%22%7D\">the wireless charging pad<\/a> will cost abut 5,000 Euros ($5,885) in Germany when it goes on sale next year.<\/p>\n<section contenteditable=\"false\" draggable=\"true\" data-widget=\"video\">\n<div class=\"video-wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"sizer\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAABAAAAAJCAYAAAA7KqwyAAAAGXRFWHRTb2Z0d2FyZQBBZG9iZSBJbWFnZVJlYWR5ccllPAAAABpJREFUeNpi\/P\/\/PwMlgImBQjBqwLAwACDAAOVfAw9\/ZDvcAAAAAElFTkSuQmCC\" alt=\"\"\/> <\/p>\n<p><iframe allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Oe--Wi23U6M?si=i8mXl7s6h4nQHGiL\" title=\"YouTube video player\" width=\"560\" loading=\"lazy\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p>Granted, that includes VAT, but it\u2019s still a lot more expensive than your average wired Level 2 EV charger. In fact, it\u2019s almost ten times more expensive than the popular Tesla Wall Connector, which retails for 535 Euros ($630) in Germany. (In the United States, Tesla\u2019s charger is listed at $420.)<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s not all, though. The <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/770251\/porsche-cayenne-ev-charging-battery-specs\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22770251%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22porsche-cayenne-ev-charging-battery-specs%22%7D\">Cayenne EV<\/a> also needs to be fitted with the necessary hardware to accept inductive charging, bringing the grand total of the system to just a smidge under 7,000 Euros ($8,240). That\u2019s a lot of money for a system that allows Cayenne EV owners to just park their cars without worrying about forgetting to plug in. Moreover, as the technology progresses, the price is bound to decrease over time.<\/p>\n<p>On the technology side, what Porsche did is quite impressive, so credit where it\u2019s due. The floor-mounted charging pad, which weighs around 110 pounds (50 kilograms), doesn\u2019t require an external box, so it can be plugged straight into the main electrical panel. Meanwhile, the floor-mounted transmitter is air-cooled.
