{"id":8974,"date":"2021-10-26T00:05:32","date_gmt":"2021-10-26T04:05:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/auto\/?p=8974"},"modified":"2021-10-26T00:05:32","modified_gmt":"2021-10-26T04:05:32","slug":"1133970_hertz-plans-100-000-tesla-model-3-supercharger-network","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=8974","title":{"rendered":"Hertz plans to add 100,000 Tesla Model 3s, citing convenience of Supercharger network"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">The rental-car giant Hertz on Monday announced plans to add 100,000 Tesla vehicles to its fleets in North America and Europe by the end of 2022, along with some of its own charging infrastructure.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Starting in November, customers will be able to rent the Tesla Model 3 at airport and neighborhood locations \u201cin U.S. major markets and select cities in Europe,\u201d though specific locations were not announced.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Hertz called the plan \u201can initial order,\u201d indicating that it might scale up the plan if all goes well.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Tesla\u2019s baked-in Supercharger network\u2014which Tesla <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1133944_tesla-aims-to-triple-the-supercharger-network-in-two-years\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plans to triple the size of in two years<\/a>\u2014clearly played a part in the choice. \u201cCustomers who rent a Tesla Model 3 will have access to 3,000 Tesla supercharging stations throughout the U.S. and Europe,\u201d Hertz said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper first_wrapper\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100812073_m\" title=\"Tesla at Hertz\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"Tesla at Hertz\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" class=\"first_image lazy\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"682\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/tesla-at-hertz_100812073_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/tesla-at-hertz_100812073_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/tesla-at-hertz_100812073_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/tesla-at-hertz_100812073_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/tesla-at-hertz_100812073_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/tesla-at-hertz_100812073_s.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Tesla at Hertz<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">From unlocking the vehicle with the app to navigating to charging stops along the way to just plugging in, users will have to learn little in terms of interfaces or enroll in multiple apps.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Hertz says EVs will make up more than 20% of its global fleet, with plans to add its own Level 2 and fast-charging hardware to 65 markets by the end of 2022. It also cites a broad commitment from a range of automakers to strengthen their EV push, as well as the climate-change benefits and lower operating costs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This isn\u2019t the first time Tesla models have been offered by Hertz. It offered the Model S at some locations starting in 2013 as part of its \u201cDream Cars\u201d program, alongside exotics from Aston Martin, Ferrari, and Lamborghini.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Hertz has been a longtime booster for electric vehicles. As long ago as 2011, the company noted that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1067370_hertz-says-we-need-more-electric-cars-after-year-of-rentals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">customer feedback on EVs had been good<\/a> and said it needed more of them for cost-minded urban and shorter-distance renters. Fields has since made appearances defending his position. In 2019, he still maintained that electrification is \u201cnot going to grow to the extent all the experts are telling you,\u201d and that there would be a \u201creckoning\u201d in 2021 or 2022.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">EV demand has reached a fever pitch in what Tesla CFO Zachary Kirkhorn last week called a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1133959_tesla-cfo-profound-awakening-of-ev-desirability-has-caught-company-off-guard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cprofound awakening\u201d of EV desirability<\/a>.
