It&#8217;s resuming limited production of its <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/chevrolet\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:1;\">Chevy<\/a> Bolt <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/electric\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">electric car<\/a> at its Orion Assembly plant.<\/p>\n<p>Orion has been shut down since August, when <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/category\/gm\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">GM<\/a> widened its recall of the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/chevrolet\/bolt+ev\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">Bolt EV<\/a> and <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/chevrolet\/bolt+euv\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">Bolt EUV<\/a> to cover 140,000 vehicles \u2014 every unit ever built \u2014 because of rare manufacturing flaws in the electric <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblotg.com\/tag\/battery\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\" rel=\"noopener\">battery<\/a> pack that represented a fire risk. Production was halted while GM and its battery supplier, LG Chem, worked out a fix, along with determining who would pay for it.<\/p>\n<p>GM said limited production of new Bolts will resume Nov. <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/polestar\/1\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:7;\">1<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>South Korea&#8217;s LG Chem, meanwhile, posted quarterly results on Monday that showed a 20% hit in profit because of the expense associated with the Bolt recall.<\/p>\n<p>It reported an operating profit of 727 billion won ($617.55 million) for the July-September quarter, versus 904 billion won in the same quarter a year earlier. LG Chem had previously announced that it would take a one-time charge of 620 billion won in the quarter\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Revenue rose 41% to 10.6 trillion won.<\/p>\n<p>LG and GM struck a deal in which LG would pay for virtually all costs associated with the $<a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/polestar\/2\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:8;\">2<\/a> billion Bolt recall. This let LG resume work on its suspended initial public offering. LG&#8217;s LGES division is hoping to cash in on soaring demand for EV batteries. It also supplies <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tesla\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">Tesla<\/a> and <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/hyundai\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:10;\">Hyundai<\/a> and struck a deal last week with Stellantis to built a U.S. battery factory together.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>General Motors announced Tuesday that it&#8217;s getting back in the Bolt business.
