The company plans to build 480-kw charging stations supported by both stationary and mobile &#8220;power storage facility,&#8221; according to an Xpeng press release.<\/p>\n<p>Xpeng teamed up with fellow Chinese automaker Nio for charging in 2019, and now claims to have 1,648 free charging stations in China.<\/p>\n<p>That same year Xpeng unveiled the sub-$40,000 P7 sedan, which was billed as a Tesla rival. It followed that up last month with the smaller <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1133587_xpeng-p5-electric-sedan-starts-around-25-000-leads-in-driver-assistance-tech-aims-for-europe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">P5 sedan<\/a>, boasting a roughly $25,000 base price, maximum range of 372 miles (as measured on the NEDC testing cycle) and advanced driver-assist tech.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper first_wrapper\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100812252_m\" title=\"Xpeng 800-volt charging\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"Xpeng 800-volt charging\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" class=\"first_image lazy\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"576\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/xpeng-800-volt-charging_100812252_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/xpeng-800-volt-charging_100812252_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/xpeng-800-volt-charging_100812252_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/xpeng-800-volt-charging_100812252_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/xpeng-800-volt-charging_100812252_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/xpeng-800-volt-charging_100812252_s.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Xpeng 800-volt charging<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>It&#8217;s unclear if Xpeng EVs will ever be sold in the United States, but 800-volt architecture could soon become more common here.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">Suppliers have been suggesting that a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1129601_supplier-confirms-broad-shift-to-800v-systems-for-luxury-evs-by-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">broad shift to 800 volts is going to happen<\/a> in next-generation EVs, and several automakers seem eager to make that prediction come true.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">Hyundai claims that its 800-volt platform is part of what will enable the Ioniq 5 EV to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1133092_hyundai-claims-ioniq-5-tesla-model-y-in-miles-of-range-added-fast-charging\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dominate the Tesla Model Y<\/a> in fast-charging rate. Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson recently said that ultra high voltage is the future for EVs, and that its 924-volt system in the Air is &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1133872_efficiency-not-range-is-what-drives-lucid-is-it-the-first-true-rival-to-tesla\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an inherent advantage<\/a>&#8221; for range and efficiency.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">Not everyone agrees on the importance of 800-volt charging, however.
