COP26, also known as the United Nations Climate Change Conference UK 2021<\/a>, kicks off Sunday October 31, and officially runs until Friday, November 12. It\u2019s being held in Glasgow at the Scottish Event Campus (pictured). Here are five things everyone needs to know about this crucial summit.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s a COP?<\/h2>\n

COP is pronounced \u201ccop,\u201d not C-O-P. The summits have taken place since 1995 \u2013 COP1 was held in Berlin. This year\u2019s summit is No. 26, and the global gatherings have grown in size over the years. <\/p>\n

In COP26\u2019s own words:<\/p>\n

For nearly three decades the UN has been bringing together almost every country on earth for global climate summits \u2013 called COPs \u2013 which stands for \u201cConference of the Parties.\u201d In that time climate change has gone from being a fringe issue to a global priority.<\/p>\n

World leaders will arrive in Scotland, alongside tens of thousands of negotiators, government representatives, businesses, and citizens for 12 days of talks.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
