\u2018UK Auto\u2019 factories produced 138,059 engines in September 2021, a decline of 36.3% year on year.\n<\/p>\n

Output for both domestic and export markets fell 42% to 49,013 and 32.6%\u00a0 to 89,046 respectively.\n<\/p>\n

Year to date, engine manufacturing fell 2.8% to 1,278,117 units compared to 2020 and remained 33.9% below the five year average.<\/p>\n

Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive, said: \u201cDuring September the number of engines produced declined by over a third, continuing this worrying trend for the fourth consecutive month.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe global shortage of semiconductors continues to stall the production of engines as well as finished vehicles, with the situation unlikely to ease until 2022.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added the government budget unveiled this week was \u201ca missed opportunity to offer much needed short-term support in light of pandemic related supply contraints such as semiconductors\u201d.\n<\/p>\n
