Tesla news\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s been a\u00a0busy few days\u00a0over at Elon\u2019s place.\u00a0Let\u2019s jump straight into the incredible news that Tesla\u2019s stock valuation has just reached $1 trillion. Yes, trillion\u2026.not\u00a0billion\u2026trillion!\u00a0That\u2019s a lot of zeros there! It comes on the back of a 12% surge in share value. They join a very short list of only 6 companies that are now worth upwards of $1 trillion.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But why did that surge happen? Let\u2019s have a look. The sales team over at Tesla<\/a> picked up the phone to Hertz for a quick chat.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018Hey, Hertz, fancy buying 100,000 Model 3s?\u2019\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018Sure, yeah, no prob. What\u2019s the discount on the bulk buy?\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018Eh, nothing really\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018No prob, we\u2019ll take \u2018em\u00a0anyway\u2019!\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ha! I jest\u2026I\u2019m sure that\u2019s not exactly how it went! But it is indeed a huge order and represents Tesla\u2019s biggest ever. The deal is worth\u00a0$4.3 billion, and\u00a0goes a long way to giving confidence to investors.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

It also paves the way for orders in a similar vein. Hertz get the added benefit of the association with a brand that so readily piques the public\u2019s imagination. And other car rental companies will want to get in on the action. The shift to EVs in becoming apparent, and other companies will want a comprehensive EV offering to keep up with shifting public demand.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Record EV Sales in Europe\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

We\u00a0love a good news story, and we love to see EVs hitting the roads in place of combustion engines. The rise of EVs in Europe continues. Overall car sales are way down, dropping just below 1 million registrations year on year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The share of plug-in vehicles hit 23% of that market in September. They\u2019re\u00a0huge numbers, as last year it was only 12% and a measly 5% the year before that. Air quality monitors around Europe will be happy, as the decline of diesel sales continues rapidly. Couple that with the ULEZ expansion in\u00a0London that is likely to be mimicked in other towns and cities, and we have good news for the air we breathe!\u00a0<\/p>\n

The star of the show in September was the Tesla Model 3 with 24,500 registrations and about 2.5% of the overall market. Now, Tesla tends to ship its cars in bulk\u00a0which distorts the weighting of those numbers to\u00a0favour\u00a0individual months\u2026but it\u2019s still great to see!\u00a0<\/p>\n

Peugeot Survey\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

We came across a survey from Peugeot that had some\u00a0pretty interesting\u00a0numbers. It\u00a0involved a series of questions that threw up some surprising data.\u00a0\u00a0
Respondents to the survey showed that the tide is indeed turning on public perception of EVs. For example, nearly a quarter of parents said that their children had requested they change from a combustion car to an electric one.\u00a0\u00a0
Another surprise was that 40% of parents said that they would like for their children to learn how to drive in an EV when the time came!\u00a0<\/p>\n

Foxconn has big EV plans<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a story that has been bubbling away quietly in the background for some time\u2026but with details emerging very recently we thought we\u2019d take a closer look.\u00a0Foxconn, the Taiwanese company,\u00a0introduced their first EV concepts under the\u00a0Foxtron\u00a0brand recently\u2026a very interesting joint venture between Taiwan\u2019s largest carmaker and the world\u2019s biggest iPhone manufacturer.\u00a0\u00a0
The company reportedly also aims to produce vehicles in Latin America, India and in Europe. Having deals negotiated with\u00a0Stellantis\u00a0and\u00a0Fisker\u00a0already, they don\u2019t appear to be hanging around. Crucially they have also been busy making acquisitions. They have purchased a facility from\u00a0Lordstown\u00a0Motors in the US as well as a chip plant in Taiwan. Considering the global shortage of chips, it looks like they\u2019re taking steps to secure their supply chain for when the time comes to start production.\u00a0<\/p>\n
