Plug’n Drive Statement on the National Auto Strategy – Plug’n Drive Canada

Toronto, ON – February 5, 2026 – Plug’n Drive welcomes the federal government’s new National Auto Strategy announcement, especially the reinstatement of purchase incentives for battery-electric vehicles (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) through the EV Affordability Program, as well as expanded investments in the national EV charging network. These measures address two of the most significant barriers Canadians face when considering electric vehicles – upfront vehicle purchase costs and access to convenient, reliable public charging.

As a national organization dedicated to building awareness, understanding, and confidence in electric vehicles through education and hands-on experience, Plug’n Drive sees EV affordability and accessible EV charging infrastructure as essential to helping Canadians make informed transportation choices. These investments support Plug’n Drive’s real-world learnings and engagement that move consumers from EV interest to EV adoption.

We are optimistic about the government’s introduction of stronger greenhouse gas emissions standards to guide the transition to lower-emission transportation – putting Canada on the path to achieve a goal of 75% EV sales by 2035 and 90% EV sales by 2040, to reduce Canada’s carbon footprint and secure its leadership in clean energy. We anticipate clear, predictable, and outcome-focused policies that will play an important role in supporting long-term planning, consumer confidence, industry certainty, and sustained progress toward emissions reduction goals.

As Plug’n Drive marks its 15th anniversary, we remain focused on collaborating with governments, automakers, industry partners, and communities to advance EV awareness and education, provide hands-on experiences, and help Canadians confidently navigate the transition to electric mobility.
